Guess he'll be getting some votes in the next Governor's race. Glad to see some people in power aren't afraid to tell it like it is. I'm very thankful that all of my family and friends in Louisiana are up north.
again......i'm speechless

i agree with everything he was saying. and i agree 316... it's nice to see someone with some power open their mouth and say what's really on their mind regardless of who it's about
Baimun,
Did you expect any less on the WB from some of those idiots? You just gotta love some of those kids and their vast worldly experiences.
No political spin? No offense, but he's the Mayor of that City. Of course there is "politics" there. And some irrationality on his part (not that I "blame" him for that per se) concerning logistics. 40,000 people/troops don't just appear out of thin air. Nor do tons and tons of supplies, etc. And it's just unrealistic to say "Don't have any more press conferences" until everything is there/fixed. 1 man holding a press conference isn't preventing mobilzation of people, distribution of supplies, etc.Originally posted by Axis Bold as B?im?n:
This is harsh, direct, and to the point.
The Mayor of New Orleans, speaking to local radio, uncensored.
Listen to the Interview or Read the Transcript
No fancy graphics, promises or political spin. Straight up on the horrific conditions and the lack of help going on.
It's just horrifying.
Unfortunately, the "blame game" and partisan politics seem to (shamefully!) be seeping into this tragedy. Now the Congressional Black Caucus is even trying to turn this into a racial issue (did you see that speech this morning? ).
Don't misunderstand me, I agree the response could have been better. BUT damn! People seem to be refusing to accept that IT TAKES TIME to drive things there - especially with major arteries like I-10 f@cked up, bridges out, etc. IT TAKES TIME for ships to sail (motor? whatever you call what ships do) there. Even the supplies they do have (are getting) can't be SAFELY distributed until order is restored. And the biggie, this wasn't "over" on Monday after the storm made landfall! It was well into Tuesday before they could even begin moving into the area.
Again, I don't think things are hunky-dory or that things have run perfectly. I wish things were running more smoothly. I really do. I just fail to see how all the finger pointing, etc is doing anyone any good. And I am getting a little sick of people doing nothing but critcizing, playing the "blame game" and finger pointing without seeming to acknowledge the friggin magnitude, logistics, and uniqueness of this situation.
Even the Mayor of New Orleans himself acknowledged this situation is "the biggest goddamn crisis in the history of this country." YES! It is. And it can't be fixed with a snap of the fingers, no matter how much we wish it could.

Wow, just fucking wow. Thats someone that cares about the people and his city. I have complete respect for this man. I swear this is the kind of person that should be president, not that phoney fucking Bush where even his briefings are bullshit photo ops. Why doesnt someone put this man on for the country to hear? This is what needs to be said and what needs to be heard so these people can get some fucking help! What the fuck is wrong with our country when we help others more than we help ourselves?
I am absolutely disgusted with our government and all the bueaucratical BULLSHIT. FUCK THE RULES OF WAITING TO BE ASKED FOR FEDRAL HELP! YOURE THE FUCKING PRESIDENT! DO WHAT THIS REAL MAN ASKS FOR! This makes me sick on my prior thoughts that our government had to be doing all they can. I cannot believe that they are treating these people and the situation like "oh well, shit happens"
When all is said and done, I hope the fucking big wigs look at the totals and feel like absolute shit for moving slow on this. the numbers arent super high yet, but just fucking wait. Lets wait for approval for the federal assistance. lets do things that take time and no, no, dont improvise and try and take steps to short cut and get things done quicker. Hell we still have to have resourses to help others, Oh and fight our FUCKING WAR that we are repaying the families in IRAQ. Here's a fucking thought, STOP PAYING FAMILIES IN IRAQS SCHOOLING AND HEALTH INSURANCE. HELP OUR OWN FUCKING PEOPLE FOR ONCE. If we didnt piss off the rest of the world protecting interest in oil, maybe we'd have more help here instead of in the fucking desert in a foreign fucking land.
I'm shocked and disgusted after hearing this. I again say, lets put this man in office. He at least has the guts and the sense to stand up and fight for his people. Everyone should listen to what he has to say. Opened my eyes
I'm exhausted from debating cause, blame, speed of assistance and political futures.
Fingerpointing and politically jockeying will be just two elements of the aftermath.... but hopefully the importance of SAVING LIVES will outweigh all that bullshit.
The WTC crisis is a perfect example of communities banding together, sweating, bleeding, and helping each other in the interest of human life... with no interest of race, nationality, religion, or political affiliation.
I hope that the more aware each and every individual can become, the better equiped we all will be to prepare and assist for whatever disaster hits our respective areas.

Just look at each house and picture 3 or 4 people for each house.
I fucking love that mayor, I woke up, turned on the Tv, and heard him saying that stuff, made my day... in a weird kinda way...
Snape.. They are being a little slower then normal in helping.. The reason I say this.. When Ivan and Andrew and the like hit Florida.. help was there in 24 to 48 hours and I mean plenty help to get things back to normal ASAP. But when Katrina hit, they seem to be really going at a slower pace.. One reason could be because Florida's governor is the monkey ear's brother. That.. And with the fact gas is in such high demand.. And Bush's oil refinery's in Texas weren't effected or damaged.. He's lining his families pockets the longer he waits to get everything in Lousiana back to normal and the refineries back up.
